McCall's 7198.......Pants

Yes another easy and simple McCall's pattern, an elasticized waist pant pattern and a great sewjo booster. This pant is so comfy that have worn it 3 times since I made it about 2 weeks ago.

Gross-grain hem finish

Fabric: Stretch Crepe from my local Fabricland . This fabric has some weight to it which makes it perfect for our Alberta cold temp.

Pattern Description: Close fitting, below waist shorts and pants have elasticized waist and stitched hems


Pattern Sizing: E5- 14-to 22. I cut size 16 of view D

 Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?: I think so.

Were the instructions easy to follow: I didn't follow the instruction, I actually didn't need it for this simple pants.

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: Here are few I made;
1. Lengthen by 2.5"
2. Lengthened back crotch by making a  1.5"wedge
3. Made 1" wedge on the back center waist and graded to nothing on the side
4. Shortened the front crotch by 2.5"
5. Added 1.5" gross grain to finish the hem because the finished length was too short even with additional 2.5"but I like how this turns out because the grain gave the pants some weight on the hem

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love  the  style, fit and comfort of the the pants

Would you recommend it to others? Yes if you love simple,quick and stylish pants this is a go to pant pattern.

Mccall's 6886...

What not to love?  The pattern, the style, number of pattern pieces or  design simplicity?
I spent approximately 2-1/2 hours making this beautiful dress, including pattern alterations, cutting and sewing. I am trying to gradually getting back to sewing and blogging so I will be starting with this little number so help me God....Please see pattern review below.

Fabric: Stripe Ponte from my local Fabricland.

Pattern Description: Close fitting, pullover dresses have neckline variations and stitched hems

Pattern Sizing: E5- 14 to 22. I started with size 14  and graded to 16 from hip down, but I should have cut 12  and graded to 14 because the pattern runs a little big IMO.I had to remove at least 1" each from both sides.

Were the instructions easy to follow:  They should be easy I guess but I didn't use them

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: I made few alterations;
1. Cut view D and lengthened by 1"
2. I did 1" sway back
3. Added 2" to sleeve hem

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Only dislike is the extra fabric in the back even with the swayback adjustment, but not a deal breaker at all, I still love the dress. Next time I will cut 2 back pieces, instead of on-fold and insert exposed zipper.....
All in all great pattern and great wardrobe builder

Refashioned Cynthia Rowley Dress

I made this Cynthia Rowley dress last year,  loved the dress so much that I worn-out  the faux leather sleeve, so instead of condemning the dress to wadderland  I removed the sleeve, serged and finished with 1/4" SA for a sleeveless look.  I paired it with a ready-to-wear under top for work this morning. With this new look I can have at least 3 different looks; wear as a sleeveless dress, with jacket or with an under top like this.... that's a big score in my book.......

McCall's 6796..... Last Project of 2014

Happy 2015 folks and yes another McCall's....this time M6797  top pattern was made into a dress. I scored the sweater knit fabric from my local Fabricland and knew right there it was destined for a dress. The dress was made in approximately 2.5hrs  morning of Dec.31 and made it my official last project of 2014......

These few alterations were made to the pattern
Modifications Made
1. Cut size 14, lengthened to dress length and tapped from hip to hemline
2. Omitted the buttons on the collar
3. Interfaced the sleeve and dress hem with fusible interface
4. Added a belt
 Conclusion:
No dislike at all as this dress kept me warm throughout the day and  I will make it my TNT sweater dress pattern. Flattering, easy and quick what not to love?

McCall's 7047.....Have you noticed?

I am really falling for McCall's patterns these days and M7047 is no exception. Anytime my sewing calls for simplicity and stylish McCall's come to my rescue so what not to love.? This is one of the easiest patterns have sewn lately and I so much love the outcome that am planning on a shorter version already..... I guess I am turning into mcCall's spokesperson....lol
 For my lovely dress, I used  crepe-knit fabric which I was fortunate enough to buy in 3 different colors, the original price was $24/m but got mine at 70% off the original . I just can't begin to describe the feel of this fabric on my body....ohhhh heavenly!! and how smooth it was to sew nothing to dislike at all. Back to the pattern, I made these few changes
Modifications Made
1.  Added about 3/4" to the bodice
2. Cut bodice back on grain because I didn't have enough fabric to cut on fold.  (I had just 2 m of a 60" wide fabric)
3. Cut the skirt-back on grain due to the same reason as above
4. The fabric had a moderate stretch so I cut 16 for the skirt, and 14 bodice. I am so glad I did, even with my weight loss it might have been  a bit difficult to fit...

McCall's 6992.....

Fall wardrobe staple, another great pattern from McCall's. I love the simplicity of this pattern and how fast it took to pull together.  I spent approximately 2 hours to complete including cutting and sewing time so a big plus in my book.
I used a sweater knit fabric that has been in my stash for ages. I think I did a good job with the placement of the fabric due to fabric shortage (I had about a meter) but importantly I wanted to make sure the white diamonds are not on the girls.....so a pat on the back for me....

 Modification made to the pattern:

1. Added 1-inch to the  bodice
2. Removed about 1.5-inch from each side of the sleeve from arm-hole to sleeve-band ( The sleeve had too much ease for my liking it might be due to my fabric choice but can't tell for sure until I try another fabric)

McCalls 6844......

Another great pattern from McCalls, this lovely pattern has been excellently reviewed by many sewist, so I might not have much to say than to show you my fabulous finished project.

Fabric: Beautiful Black Ponte Knit from Fabricland.

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made:  
1. I lengthened the bodice by 0.5"
2. Lengthened the sleeve by 1.5",
3. Interfaced and added twill tape in the seam allowance between the bodice and the peplum.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?  Great pattern and  nice wardrobe builder.  Overall an excellent pattern!!!

Newlook 6130........Lace Peplum

Have made several versions of this pattern in the past , for a complete review check my first version here 
What I did differently in this version include the following :
1. lower the neck by 1"
2. removed the pleat on the front flounce.
Paired with a ready to wear top and I really love the casual look...

McCalls 6988.....

My version of McCall 6988 a well drafted pattern for every share. I love everything peplum/flounce and this pattern is no exception. Check out my pattern review below:

 

 Fabric: Poly-spandex fabric and polyurethane  faux leather from my local fabricland store.
Pattern Description: Semi-fitted dresses with self-lined yokes, princess seams, and back zipper. A, B with flounce and narrow hem. I made a sleeveless version B.
Pattern Sizing: Size E5, (14 - 22). I cut size 14 and morphed to 16 from waist down.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?:
Were the instructions easy to follow: The instructions are quite easy to follow.
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: The following were made to original pattern
   1. Lengthened the bodice by 3.5",
   2. Omitted lined yoke,
   3. Interfaced neck and sleeve, turned-in and sewed down
   4. No lining attached.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Flounce..... I so much love
Conclusion: This style will flatter any figure and shape. It's a plus in my book.

Jacket...........Simplicity 3628 View B

I have been sewing but not blogging..... I actually made 4 pants in the past week and half  but will get to reviewing them shortly. In the meantime, here is a  jacket I completed last Friday, I cut and sewed the jacket in about 6 hours. There is nothing much to the pattern as have made it before here.
The only thing I did differently was added a real pocket instead of flap and lined with a contrasting gorgeous cotton silk, oh mine silk is such a lovely material to sew and wear, I love its feel to the body. The jacket fabric has been in my stash forever some kind of suiting fabric I think wool-polyester
I have completed the button-hole but I am  not sure of the button colour to use, your  suggestions will be appreciated as I am so confused right now.
I love this jacket so much and it wears so well. The color is so great for fall/winter as I don't want to limit myself to just black and brown jackets....
So fellas what do you think of my color-blocking???
