Holiday , Fabric and Goals

I have been so busy since I came back from the States, lots and lots to catch on. My trip was so lovely , my kids enjoyed every bit of it, they even asked if we could visit Obama ....lol, my 6 yr old son would have loved to have dinner with him ahahaha...... They were so excited to meet their cousins and they enjoyed themselves to the fullest.

I got to visit JoAnn as well, I was like a child in a candy store .........lol , I have always wanted to visit the store because I have read about it on other blogs , but unfortunately we don't have it here in Canada, the only store closest to it here is Fabricland and sometimes they don't carry some of the fabrics you get in the states so sad.....I really went KNIT when I got to the store , I got some lovely solid and print knits and I am planning on making some dresses which I have not done before , I just hope it will be fun working with knits.

My Newest fabrics from JoAnn.

As per my sewing resolution, I don't think I have one yet, I just want to set some goals and some realistic time for myself, hopefully they all become achievable. Here are some of the things I plan to accomplish this year.

1. My first goal will be to sew with a plan (Sew what will work with my existing wardrobe).
2. Finish one project before starting a new one.
3. Tackle new skills ( bound botton-hole, piping, and to try the welt pocket).
4. Try some patterns I have been avoiding especially vogue patterns.
5. Read more books (sewing books and everything in between) and learn to bead.
6. Join a sewing group if I can find any in my area(It's so boring sewing alone. I am grateful to all you bloggerist out there helping to keeping my mojo alive).
7. Have fun with my sewing and not to sew myself out.
Sewing project plans .
1. Make some lined and unlined jackets with matching pants which includes trench coat(I love jackets).
2. Make some pants which includes, casual, tailored and jean pants, (I always have problem with RTW pants).
3. Make some dresses especially little black dress(I don't have a single dress).
4. Sew some lovely skirts and blouses/tops.
5. Sew some kid's patterns I bought last year for my kids.
6. My most important goal would be sew to fit and sew neatly both inside and out .

I can't believe , I have these much to do, what a list when you write them down.
BTW, I made my first vogue pattern, I just love it, I will be reviewing it in the next post........... in the meantime, I am glad to be back home ad to my sewing. I really enjoyed my holiday and sure you all did.

See you all when my needle breaks :-) Aminat

  3. Hello and Happy New Year. Your fabric choices are very pretty. I enjoyed how you shared your goals...you've just given me an idea. I should have something to visualize and what a better way than to use our blogs. :-)

  4. I'm really digging your print knits. I must be located the nearest BOOTLEG Joanns because mine doesn't have such nice print knits. Great find!
You'll be sewing dresses with your eyes closed before you know it!

  6. Glad you were able to get some great knits at Joanns. Regardless of how many times I go to Joanns, I always feel like a kid in a candy store.

  7. I'm loving those fabrics...yummy! It's a shame I can't help but gulk at other people's fabric, what an addiction. I know you're glad to be back to your sewing. Have fun making them up!

  8. I like your plan. About sewing alone. I use to feel that way before I started working part-time in Fafricville (a cousin of sorts to Fabricland)after I retired from teaching. There I've met all kinds of people like me who live and breathe sewing, fabrics, patterns, etc. And then I discovered Stitchers Guild and from that Blogging. I never feel like I'm sewing alone anymore especially since I decided to join the SWAP contest. Good luck with your sewing plans and Happy Sewing. Diana

  10. What a coincidence! Back in Nov, I bought two of the fabrics in pic 1: the brown cherry blossom print and the brown with teal flowers. Cool!

And I "went KNIT" there too, myself, then, LOL!
